What to Expect at Your First Color Consultation at Revive Salon

Before you ever sit in the chair at Revive, we ask you to fill out a consultation form. It's not a formality, it's how we make sure your first visit is planned instead of improvised. Here's what's actually on that form, why we ask, and what happens with your answers once you hit submit.
Do I need to fill out anything before my appointment?
Yes. New clients complete a short online form before booking, covering your hair history, goals, and a few photos. We review it ahead of time so your stylist walks into your appointment already knowing your hair.
What kind of questions will I be asked?
More than you might expect, and for good reason. Expect questions in a few categories:
Your hair history. Have you had a haircut, color, highlights, a perm, or a chemical straightening treatment in the last year, in a salon or at home? This tells us what your hair has already been through, which affects how it will respond to anything new. Our goal is to achive your dream hair while maintainng the health and integrity of your hair.
Your goals. Are you looking for a cut, color, or both? What are you hoping to achieve? Vague answers are completely fine here, that's what the in-person conversation is for. But even a rough direction helps your stylist prepare.
Product and tool habits. We'll ask what products you currently use and whether you regularly use hot tools like flat irons or curling wands. Both affect how your hair looks and behaves day to day.
Water at home. This one surprises people, we ask whether you have city or well water, and whether you've noticed hard water issues. Hard water changes how color takes and how products perform, so it's genuinely useful information, not a throwaway question. We offer treatments that can help get the best results if you d have hard water at home.
Why do you ask about medications and allergic reactions?
Because chemical services aren't one-size-fits-all. Certain medications; Accutane, Rogaine, and Minoxidil in particular, can affect how hair and scalp respond to chemical treatments, as can anesthesia within the last 90 days. Same with any past allergic or adverse reactions to salon products. None of this is meant to be invasive; it's meant to keep your service safe and avoid surprises mid-appointment.
Why does it matter if I've used box color before?
It's one of the most important questions on the form. Non-professional color and lighteners can behave very differently than what we use in-salon, and layering professional color over box color without knowing it's there can lead to unpredictable results. If you've used it, telling us upfront means we can plan for it, sometimes with a corrective treatment first, instead of finding out once we've already started.
What photos should I upload?
We ask for a few, and each one serves a purpose:
Front, side, and back photos of your current hair. This way your stylist can see your natural color, texture, and length before you arrive, not just guess from a single angle.
An inspiration photo for color. This helps us understand the tone, dimension, or vibe you're picturing. We're not trying to replicate it exactly (every head of hair is different), but it gives us a real reference point instead of a verbal description alone.
An inspiration photo for your cut. Same idea. A photo tells us more in one glance than most descriptions can.
Natural lighting and your hair down and unfiltered give us the most accurate picture... literally.
Will you still ask me questions in person?
Yes, always. The form gives your stylist a head start, but we go over the key details again once you're in the chair, partly to confirm nothing's changed, and partly because some things are easier to talk through in person than type into a form. Think of the form as the first half of the conversation, not the whole thing.
How long does the actual consultation take?
Once you're in the salon, plan on a genuine conversation before any service starts — not just a quick glance and a "sounds good." We'd rather take a few extra minutes upfront than guess.
